What do guns and archery have in common? Both were used for hunting and combat during the early times. Nowadays, both have also drawn a huge interest from the people being two of the most popular recreational activities.

Unlike guns though, people have only become interested with archery again when it was added back into the Olympic Games. One needs archery equipment in order to enjoy the sport but as a beginner, you don’t have to buy the entire equipment and accessories at once. It is important that you have some knowledge on how to buy archery equipment so you won’t end up buying the pieces that you don’t need yet especially if you are on a tight budget.

Here are the basic equipments that you need if you are into archery:

Bow – This is the very first thing that you need in archery. Start slowly. Do not aim to buy the bow that a champion athlete uses for competitions. Consider the draw weight and length. There are 4 types of bow classification: longbow, recurve bow, composite recurve bow and compound bow. Each one has its advantages and drawbacks. Pick one that you can pull with ease and with a draw length that suits you best. If you have chosen one that you cannot pull and with a draw length quite too long for your arms, you might not be able to learn quickly. You may upgrade your bow with heavier draws as you become more skilled.

Arrow – The arrow compliments the bow. It is the next basic thing that you need when you are into archery. Choose arrows with a length that matches the draw length of your bow. Like the bow, arrows come in various lengths designed to support either longer or shorter draws. Once you upgrade your bow, you may also need to change your arrows in order to match the type of bow that you use.

Quiver – The quiver is where you can keep your arrows and other equipment. You need this to keep your arrows safe and to prevent you from loosing them. Not like the arrows, when you pick a quiver that is durable and can withstand extreme weather conditions, you will not need to buy another once you upgraded your bow.

These are the basic things that you need to start with the hobby of archery. For you to get more information, read product reviews, testimonials and expert opinions online. With such you will have a better idea if the equipment is worth spending your money with. You can also try going to an archery specialty store in your area and try the bow and arrows before actually making a purchase.
